For all the sartorial benefits of bespoke tailoring, it can be an uncomfortable process. Not only in regard to the customary man-handling, but also the awkward moment when you’re asked to evaluate the gravitational pull of your downstairs anatomy.
Which might go some way to explain why Alexander McQueen’s flagship store on Savile Row has just introduced Made To Measure, a service allowing men to enjoy the finest in customary tailoring without the ceremony of rigorous fitting sessions.
Produced in Italy and with a 6-8 week wait for delivery, the suits come in three jacket styles: single-breasted with peak or notch lapel, or double breasted (waistcoat optional). There are 26 different fabrics – including classics such as herringbone, pinstripes and Prince Of Wales checks, as well as McQueen’s own seasonal numbers, along with four different jacket lining colours.
In addition, McQueen’s head tailor is offering a Bespoke service. Clients can be measured for one-off creations – anything from a simple waistcoat to a six-button, double-breasted Prince Of Wales jacket – with prices starting from £3,600. And with the Made To Measure service from £1,735, the only question that might leave you sweating will be concerning the method of payment.
