This makes the Battle of Bramall Lane look like a testimonial.
An Argentinian lower division match had to be called off on Wednesday after the game descended into a mass brawl, with the referee issuing 12 red cards.
The action happened in a clash between Deportiva Roca and Cipolletti in Group One of the country's third tier, Torneo Federla A and started in an innocuous fashion, when Cipolletti defender Marcos Lamolla was given a yellow card for a foul on Fernando Fernández. A team-mate of Fernández then protested and was sent off, before a scuffle led to a second yellow for Lamolla.
However, it all kicked off - literally - when Lamolla ran the length of the pitch to square up to Fernández. Players rushed in and before long the beautiful sight of flying kicks, pushes and punches could be witnessed. The referee, Facundo Espinosa, having failed to restore order, despite the help of riot police, led his officials off the pitch and abandoned the game with Cipolletti leading 1-0: he later said that he had sent off 10 players, and that more would be named in his report.
