Marks & Spencer’s latest Best Of British range embraces statement-making swagger
Bold, non-apologetic, check suits have found their way into favour this spring. Brave at heart and victorious in endeavour, Marks & Spencer has some of the finest.
Whether a long-line double-breasted Prince Of Wales check with peak lapels and slim-fitting cuffed trousers that channel the suavity of Cary Grant, or a single-breasted windowpane with wide-notch-lapels that mirrors the swagger of Seventies style icon Robert Redford, M&S’s latest Best Of British premium range – using fabrics from within the UK – has the trend covered.
The brainchild of head of menswear design, Tony O’Connor, Best Of British, now in its second season, pushes out a little bit further than its debut. O’Connor says, “Emphasis on checks, from oversized windowpane to the Prince Of Wales check, signifies the growing confidence of statement British style.” Matching umbrellas are optional.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
