Kick off with a taste of Brazil

Give your summer some South American flair with a Smirnoff Caipiroska

Kick off with a taste of Brazil
28 May 2014

Be it style, design, or food, some things should be kept simple. The same goes for great drinks. Some of the best drinks can be created hassle-free at home.

Check out the video above and watch as Smirnoff barman Frankie Campopiano gives you a taste of South America with a step-by-step guide to the Brazilian Smirnoff Caipiroska, perfect for a summer of football.

Here are a few additional tips to help get you started:

Shakers: If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, use a jam jar. Just don’t forget to screw on the lid before you shake.

Cold Glasses: Where possible, store glasses in the freezer before serving your drink. This helps keep the drink colder for longer and creates a great looking frosted glass effect.

Muddling: If you don't have a muddler, use the tip of your rolling pin to release the flavour of your fruits.

THE INGREDIENTS:

  • 50ml Smirnoff
  • Half a lime, cut into four
  • 1tsp caster sugar (or something else sweet, such as honey or maple syrup)
  • A wedge of lime as a garnish

THE METHOD:

Step 1 Place your Smirnoff (2 units per serve), lime and sugar in a glass and use the end of a rolling pin or spoon to squash it and release the lime juice.

Step 2 Crush some ice by wrapping cubes in a tea towel and smashing with your rolling pin, then add to the glass.

Step 3 Stir and top up with leftover ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve. And when friends ask, obviously pretend that it was incredibly complicated.
