An impromptu snooker match, an Eighties boyband-themed surprise party; there are many reasons why it could be useful to have a waistcoat secreted about your person at all times.
Which is probably why the good folks at Missoni and London retailer Jean Machine have created the JM4 jacket (£340, right): a devilishly dapper denim number, with a detachable zigzag felted wool waistcoat hidden underneath.
This piece is part of Jean Machine’s new autumn/winter range, which sees the brand – which previously ruled the denim roost on London’s Kings Road back in the Seventies – relaunching in style by partnering with iconic Italian fashion house Missoni to create a new capsule collection for modern men.
The JM4 aside, we’re also particularly keen on the straight-leg jeans (£190), in clean blue-rinse wash, with knitted pockets. For keeping your keys warm, presumably.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
