Jack White plans to play the first record in space

The first space-proof turntable is launching this Saturday, and there's only one possible use for it: blasting a gold-plated 12-inch master of Carl Sagan’s A Glorious Dawn out to the aliens.

At least, this is what Jack White plans to do.

The iCarus Craft will carry the tune up to space on 30 July, and the whole thing will be streamed live on White's own record label's website, Third Man Records

What is the iCarus Craft, you ask? It's a "space-proof" turntable attached to a high-altitude balloon. Naturally.

Third Man Records will also host launch parties at its Detroit and Nashville locations, which will include a viewing of the mission, live performances, and exclusive merch.

Which all sounds great and all, but what if aliens are actually Taylor Swift fans? Do we really want to piss off the aliens? Can anyone truly claim to have thought this through?
