Q: I'm about to hit 40. Late to the full grooming game, but whats the best moisturising and eye gel products to maintain my youthful looks and what regime should I adhere to?
Simon, South Shields
A: Our expert Ahmed Zambarakji answers your questions below:
A: Better late than never! Skincare doesn’t come onto a guy’s radar until signs of wear and tear start to show. You, on the other hand, mention ‘maintaining’ rather than ‘repairing’ - which suggests you need products that will keep everything well-preserved, rather than reparative solutions containing hardcore chemicals.
Your skin type, how far ‘gone’ you are, the area to be treated and any specific conditions (pigmentation? sagging? fine lines? sensitivity?) are important variables when it comes to selecting the right kind of product. There are loads of options to pick from and all the usual suspects (Lab Series , Elemis etc) make formidable anti-ageing formulas specifically for men.
Since you’re almost 40, I’d avoid the supermarket brands and go for the slightly pricier stuff – you really do get what you pay for. A £5.99 product might mention the right ingredients on the bottle, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it contains them in the right concentration.
Spend a bit more and be sure to buy three different kinds of anti-ageing products: a protective anti-ageing formula with SPF for the day, an eye formula and reparative overnight formula. I’d opt for Lab Series’ Max LS Age-Less Face Cream, Clinque’s Age Defense for Eyes and REN’s Frankincense Revitalising Night Cream. If you really want to splash out, consider ‘cosmeceutical’ brands like Skinceuticals or Dr Sebagh.
