It would appear that adidas has taken a move straight out of the Star Trek playbook and are heading into August with their shields up.
These pockmarked delights make up the adidas Originals Shield Pack - a reworking of two of the line's classic models.
The Superstar 80s keeps its familiar shell toe cap, but the three stripes of the upper canvas have been replaced by a snakeskin-like perforated synthetic shell, exposing a nylon layer underneath. Things are less radical around the heel, a fat red finger loop providing a splash of red to both the white and black models.
The Samba version of the Shield is almost unrecognisable - again, the lack of stripes freeing up the identity of these classics. The black model (our favourite of the pack) is finished in leather, while the burgundy comes in a neat suede.
Arriving on adidas.com/originals on 1 August, we're glad to see that adidas is capable of changing its stripes.
