A boutique with a twist

Something different for the discerning gent

A boutique with a twist
01 November 2010

When it comes to shopping for something a little out of the ordinary, said is most definitely easier than done. That’s why Mayfair boutique Couturelab is a place you definitely want to know about.

This unique store on Davies St offers the discerning gent (and lady) a shopping experience like no other. Unlike most other outlets, on the shelves of CoutureLab you’ll find the work of little-known artisans from around the world alongside established renowned designers like Charvet and Dunhill, giving the pieces you buy a heightened sense of exclusivity. There are also items made solely for CoutureLab.

The twist continues with the individual nature of the products in the store, with classic items being matched, if not outnumbered, by the kinds of designs that stand out from the crowd. Why make do with run-of-the-mill cufflinks when you could have a pair that look like eyes or shaped into subtle Kama Sutra positions from Delfina Delettrez, or the interchangeable multi-coloured ‘days of the week’ set from Ellie Blue?

CoutureLab is the latest venture from Net-a-Porter founder Carmen Busquets and has been running online at Couturelab.com for about three years. The shop opened in January, but is only just beginning to make itself known in the press, preferring to spend the first few months of the year honing its identity.

Busquets said: “In the new boutique we will have pop-up exhibitions by our designers and artists, where they have an opportunity to showcase not only their collections, but to reflect their own world and lifestyle.”

So, whether you’re shopping for yourself or that awkward ‘person who has everything’, CoutureLab should definitely be on your browsing list.
