Nikolaj Coster-Waldau revealed a huge detail about the 'Game of Thrones' S7 finale *two years* ago
31 August 2017

In the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale, Cersei calls Jaime the “stupidest Lannister”, before Jaime finally tires of her shit and leaves to defend the North.

But if this little quip from Jaime’s actor, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, in an interview with Conan O’Brien back in 2015 is deliberate then he’s far from stupid. In fact, he’s one sly motherfucker.

O’Brien is talking to Coster-Waldau about the show’s fans, and about how they pore over everything in so much detail that’s it’s very easy to slip in little references that mean absolutely nothing, in the knowledge they will be analysed for hours – just for a bit of fun.

They then move onto spoilers, and O’Brien asks if Coster-Waldau can reveal anything now. The Danish actor looks a little sheepish, before telling the crowd: “They’ll probably fire me, but you know the dragons? And you know Jaime and Cersei have this incestuous relationship? Well, the dragons too.”

Everyone bursts out laughing at Coster-Waldau’s hilarious joke – but what if it wasn’t a joke at all? What if he is actually revealing one of the show’s biggest future plot points in code, and no one even realises it?

At the end of ‘The Dragon and The Wolf’, we see Daenerys and Jon get it on in Dany’s chamber on the ship up to Winterfell. Jon and Dany are, as we know, both Targaryens, i.e. they are both dragons. And they are performing incest.

Did Jaime know about this future storyline and decide to play a little game with the fans? Or did he just happen to accidentally stumble into one of the biggest spoilers in Game of Thrones history? We would love to believe it’s the first option.

You can watch the a full two-minute clip of Coster-Waldau’s appearance on Conan below – I would recommend it, he’s a very funny man.

Since the finale, Coster-Waldau has also been speaking about where Jaime goes now, and revealed that, in his mind, his character is no longer in love with Cersei.

On the scene where Jaime calls Cersei’s bluff, leaving her and heading north to fight the White Walkers, he told HuffPost: "My subjects as an actor was 'This is it. I don't believe in you anymore. I don't believe in this, you and me. I don't love you anymore.' That's how I played it."

He added:  “That was a great scene, really, because we’ve been waiting for that moment a long time. There were so many other times when I thought that would be it, time for him to pack his bags, but I guess she finally took it one step too far. He saw what he saw, and he understood the threat [of the dead], and he understood that clearly if they don’t all work together, they don’t stand a chance.

“And the fact that he knows his sister saw and recognized the same threat and her calculations led her to the exact opposite result — it’s just shocking. I don’t know why it took him so long to realize what the rest of the world always knew — that she is a crazy monster — but he finally did. And then he left.”
