Here are the details for the 'Call Me By Your Name' sequel

Fresh off an Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay at the weekend, the makers of the beautiful gay love story Call Me by Your Name have revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming sequel.

The film stars Timothée Chalamet as the young Elio and charts his growing romantic and sexual relationship with his older love interest Oliver, played by Armie Hammer.

Call Me by Your Name is an amazing film about how wondrous gay love can be and how it so often ends in tragic disappointment because of messed up, homophobic societal pressure.

And, of course, everyone has now fallen in love with 22-year-old Chalamet – you can read our fascinating chat with the actor here.

Speaking on the Oscars red carpet, the film’s director Luca Guadagnino divulged that the follow up is already being worked on, and will see Hammer and Chalamet return to the now-iconic roles.

“I’m already conceiving the story with [author] André Aciman,” Guadagnino told USA Today. “It’s gonna happen five or six years afterwards, so almost in the 1990s.”

He added: “It’s gonna be a new movie, a different tone. You’re gonna see a lot of the East Coast of America… They’re gonna go around the world.”

So, CMBYN is going on a world tour? Very cool.

Hopefully the next film will also do a better job of exploring the lives of a broader range of LGBT+ people – because, unlike in the first film, unfortunately we don’t all spend our summers in luxurious Italian villas playing the piano and bonking our dad’s students.

And it looks like the director is aware that he needs to expand the scope of gay life he includes in the next film. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Guadagnino said is preparing to tackle the devastating crisis around HIV and AIDS.

“I think it’s going to be a very relevant part of the story,” he said.

And lastly anyone who’s seen the film probably fell in love with the soundtrack, including ‘Mystery of Love’ by Sufjan Stevens. You can watch him performing the song at the Oscars here:
