Prepare to meet your Destiny. Sort of. Okay, not really - unless the purpose of your life is to become engrossed in a vast online multiplayer action role-playing first-person shooter, in which case... prepare your thumbs.

From the studio that brought the world the Halo series, Destiny is shaping up to be the gaming experience the 'next-gen' console owners have been waiting for (it's okay, it's coming to older consoles as well). The latest trailer reveals what PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 owners who have pre-ordered the game will be able to get up to in the Beta session that kicks off on 17 July (Xbox One and Xbox 360 players will have to wait until 23 July).

A sample of story missions, fireteam battles and competitive multiplayer arenas will be open to players, allowing Bungie developers to grab a whole heap of data to fine tune the game while we stoke up our own anticipation for the game's launch on 9 September.

Watch the video and expect to clear your diary for most of July.
