London Collections Round-Up Day 3

The final day from style director Adrian Clark

London Collections Round-Up Day 3
09 January 2013

London Collections: Men finished on a high with strong collections shown by both established and emerging labels. At the celebrated house of Hardy Amies, designer Claire Malcolm furthered her quest to modernise the brand, imagining a meeting of British royal grandeur and the restraint of the Bauhaus school of design. The autumn collection included impeccable three-piece tailoring in traditional Prince of Wales check or a linear tartan.

Patrick Grant’s collection for E.Tautz was a triumph and probably the highlight of the entire three days. Suits were soft but precisely put together, with trousers tucked into socks. Tartans and checks were explored in a very modern and intelligent way for coats and outerwear, while knits were graphic in shades of rust or heather greys.

On a very different tip, Katie Eary presented a kick-ass collection of sportswear that cited “death and decadence” as its inspiration and merged luxury materials with street sensibilities. Gothic, midnight blacks and ink quill navy clashed with day-glow fuchsias and a gory blend of purple and red to represent the lifeblood of her undead muse.
