On the even of London Collections: Men, Shortlist enters the inner sanctums of the UK's most exciting designers to see what lies ahead for Autumn.

Patrick Grant for E.Tautz

Patrick Grant for E. Tautz

What’s one item no man should be without this Autumn/Winter?

Same as every winter in the UK, a decent long coat.

What’s the Autumn/Winters biggest trend to look out for?

Nordic jumpers; at Tautz we did Icelandic and Faroe Island, but other Nordic knits will do equally as well.

One item of clothing that you regret?

Viewed dispassionately my wardrobe is full of horrors but there were all bloomin’ cool at the time.

Lou Dalton

What was the inspiration for the collection?

Euphoria -  an intense state of transcendent happiness combined with an overwhelming sense of contentment. 1988 - 1992, Factory Records.

What’s one item no man should be without this Autumn/Winter?

Lou Dalton of course...

What’s the Autumn/Winters biggest trend to look out for?

Double layered utilitarian outerwear.

One item of clothing that you regret?

As Scott Waker would say, "‎No Regrets" even if there have been times where I have thought "what was I thinking" you learn by this and you move on…

Joe and Charlie Casely Hayford for Casely Hayford

Joe and CHarlie Casely-Hayford for Caseley-Hayford London Collections Men

[Answers by Joe Hayford]

What was the inspiration for the collection?

We were inspired by the idea of a group of Runaways. This influence resulted in a collection of multiple layers and contrasting textures, for example, an MA1 duffle coat over a calf length hoodie and new brightly coloured technical outerwear and deconstructed tailoring fused with the sportswear that Casely-Hayford has become known for.

What’s one item no man should be without this Autumn/Winter?

Autumn/Winter is a defining season, when colour and texture take a permanent hold on every vaguely stylish man's wardrobe. Outerwear takes on a new form as the message becomes stronger. This season every man should invest in a statement item, something that stands out. Whether it's a vibrant patterned Parka or a shearling coat. The days of nondescript outerwear are numbered.

What’s the Autumn/Winters biggest trend to look out for?

Discover your individuality. LC:M has done a lot in terms of exposing us to the amount of fun menswear can be. Discover what makes you comfortable and happy and then just go for it!

One item of clothing that you regret?

You should never regret something that once made you happy.

Liam Hodges

What was the inspiration for the collection?

Markets, the sort of classic English suburban town market with knock off boxers and phone chargers for all occasions.

What’s one item no man should be without this Autumn/Winter?

Knitted patchwork tracksuits.... available internationally ;)

One item of clothing that you regret?

Its not really one item... more a a collection of items.... they where all Purple to some degree and I'd wear them all together.

Gordon Richardson for Topman Design

What was the inspiration for the collection?

It was a nostalgic yet thoroughly modern revamp of the 70's.

What’s one item no man should be without this Autumn/Winter?

The must have piece is the Shearling coat.

What’s the Autumn/Winters biggest trend to look out for?

The return of subtle pinstripes and tartans, big wrap coats, suede, roll neck knits and the colour camel.

One item of clothing that you regret?

Looking back it was probably the combination of orange roll neck and embossed paisley purple cords in my youth! I've never really worn colour since.

What was the inspiration for the collection?

We looked at public school uniforms and the oversized, unfussy  attitude with which they’re worn. Layers of tailoring and sports kit are mixed and matched. The colours come from the palette of Irish-American artist Sean Scully.

What’s one item no man should be without this Autumn/Winter?

The oversized Birmingham double faced cashmere coat is a JOSEPH luxury essential from the Autumn Winter 2015 collection.

What’s the Autumn/Winters biggest trend to look out for?

It’s all about the rugby shirt. We did them in a classic flannels and pinstripes. There’s also a luxury version in a super-soft Nappa leather.

One item of clothing that you regret?

Regret nothing! Life’s too short.
