Stephen King and J.J Abrams' new show 'Castle Rock' will rival 'Stranger Things'

At this point, everyone is looking to either fill the void left by Stranger Things until the next season or rival it.

Enter the King (Stephen King) of dark and twisted, who’s teaming up with JJ Abrams for the second time to adapt his stories into TV.

Following the underrated mini-series 11.22.63 starring James Franco, their new project, Castle Rock will be a web of a universe merging themes and characters from King’s books that are based in the series’ namesake town Castle Rock.

Castle Rock is the fictional Maine town which first appeared in King’s The Dead Zone and takes its name from the fictional mountain fort in William Golding's 1954 novel Lord of the Flies.

It has also featured in Cujo, The Body, Uncle Otto's Truck, Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, The Dark Half, The Sun Dog, Needful Things and It Grows on You.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “each season of the series will follow a different set of characters and storylines while interjecting themes and specific characters from previous seasons.”

There isn’t much more information about the plot at the moment but there is a teaser trailer that viewers were led to by an ominous tweet from the Bad Robot (Abrams and his Warner Bros. TV company) asking “What is the hoax in the forest?”:

So less of a web and more of an intricate system of blood vessels, to add to the creep factor.

Within that, there are references to almost all of King’s famous stories meaning we’re probably in for quite the ride.

No news on when Castle Rock will hit our screens but it’s likely to be 2018 at the earliest as King’s diary is pretty chocka this year with The Dark Tower (starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba) coming to cinemas in summer and similarly nostalgic horror remake of It, set for release in September.
