‘Are huge dollops of CGI the reason you don’t enjoy blockbusters like you used to?
This was a question posed by a recent clip we featured, showing how, subconsciously, it’s possibly that computer effects are halting your enjoyment of major movies. The answer seemed to be a resounding YES, with over 3,000 voting and 81 per cent of that vote (at time of writing) declaring the dream over. Dead.
Well here’s an interesting counterpoint. Wryly titled Why CG sucks, this new video by RocketJump Film School shows how CGI is everywhere, beautifully and wonderfully executed in places you least expect, used for the most minute of details including sofas, houses and cars.
And of all the 'soft objects' rendered, cars could perhaps be the most interesting swap - the next time you see a car chase on the big screen you may want to question whether skidding, oncoming vehicles are nothing but a splotch of pixels. Even people are superfluous it seems, as the industry uses less and less extras and relies on CGI. But is this a good thing? Has the clip below changed your mind at all?
