“Sometimes your worst self is your best self,” imparts Vince Vaughn’s career criminal with the sort of blank, soulless stare you rarely see unless you're stood outside Ladbrokes on a Sunday night.
Yes, the latest trailer for season two of True Detective has landed, promising as much morbid philosophising than the first – and bigger moustaches too.
Our meatiest glimpse of the show yet, it dials up the dark and then some, as Vaughn’s clearly not the only one battling demons in the sweat-strewn streets of LA country: Colin Farrell’s corrupt cop is in an equally sombre mood, finding himself tangled up in a bizarre murder and billion dollar conspiracy where he’s joined by two other law officers (Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch) who don't exactly look happy go lucky themselves.
We doubt even Twinkies would cheer this miserable bunch up. But it bodes well for another TV masterpiece.
True Detective: Season Two airs on HBO in the US on 21 June and Sky Atlantic soon after
