Triple H surprises hero policeman of London Bridge attack with WWE Championship belt

An off-duty policeman who ran at the knife-wielding London Bridge terrorists has been presented with his own WWE Championship belt by wrestling legend Triple H.

25-year-old Charlie Guenigault was stabbed multiple times as he tried to fight off the three perpetrators with his bare hands, sustaining wounds to his leg, back, stomach and head that left him needing emergency surgery in hospital. He was on a night out with friends at the time of the attack, but risked his own life in a second to protect others from harm.

Now released from hospital and making good progress, Guenigault, who was wearing the T-shirt of WWE superstar Sami Zayn on the night, has received a visit from another of his wrestling heroes.

14-time World Champ Triple H flew into the UK to pay tribute to the fearless cop in person, hailing his “exceptional bravery” when they met at a hotel in London.

Guenigault was moved to tears by the exchange

“To run in the direction of a scary situation that can’t even be described in words, to help others, for that to be your instinct to help others – that is a hero,” said Triple H of the south-east Londoner. “People say a lot of times that they watch WWE because these guys are like real-life superheroes. Well, Charlie is a real hero.”

And to top it all off, he handed him a WWE Championship belt with the inscription: “To Charlie. Thank you to a true hero”.

Triple H also played a video message recorded by Sami Zayn. “You put yourself in the line of danger at a time when you really had no obligation to do so,” said the Canadian.

“I can’t tell you how much respect I have for you. The fact you were wearing my shirt at the time really puts it into perspective for me.

“Sami Zayn has always been the guy known to stand up to the bad guys, but you did it in the most horrific of circumstances. Man, I’m just blown away, I really am.”

When asked for his reaction to the day’s events, Guenigault said: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet one of the greatest Superstars ever. My comments when he first walked in the room are probably not suitable for a PG audience.”
