The World's Most Expensive Hot Dog Unveiled
13 August 2014

This record-breaking hot dog doesn't weigh a ton, but it'll cost you one.

US convenience food truck Tokyo Dog, based in Seattle, Washington, has claimed the Guinness World Record for the most expensive commercially available hot dog, with their creation costing an enormous $169 (£101.69). Six lucky customers bought one on the first day they were available, with the profits going to the American Red Cross.

Known as the 'Junni Ban', the ingredients include smoked cheese bratwurst, butter Teriyaki grilled onions, Maitake mushrooms, Wagyo beef, foie gras, shaved black truffles, caviar and Japanese mayonnaise, served in a brioche bun.

The dog remains on sale, but requires two weeks' notice for any orders. It takes over the record from the 'California Capitol City Dawg', which was sold at Capitol Dawg in Sacramento, California, for an eye-watering $145.49 (£93.39) in May 2012. Both of these have got some way to go to match the world's most expensive actual dog - a cool £1.2m.
