Let's start by clarifying one important point: we're not looking to offend graphic designers. Some of our best friends are graphic designers - they dress well, are perfectly eloquent in conversation and have that cool aloof thing that Ryan Gosling nailed in Drive.

However, these traits aren't universal to anyone who owns Photoshop - a fact which seems lost on the majority of screen writers.

Up there with bad cops having a chin of perpetually four-day-old stubble and the consistent pattern of sports stars plucking victory from the open jaw of defeat, every graphic designer of cinema and TV seems to have been plucked from a niche, clichéd character folder.
