The low-tech popcorn maker

Despite the upsettingly high price, the lure of popcorn is almost impossible to resist when visiting the cinema.

Picking up on the cheaply made but distractingly addictive snack's theatrical connection, Switzerland-based design students Laurent Beirnaert, Pierre Bouvier and Paul Tubiana of ECAL university have made an intirguingly minimalist popcorn maker.

The 'Oncle Sam' cooks one kernel at a time but in a lovingly complicated way.

You can see how it works below and while we're far too impatient for this to become the norm, it's rather fun to watch.
