Stunning then-and-now shots of Liverpool lay bare the city's timelessness

While many major UK city centres run the danger of slipping into the black hole of ubiquity (think uniform branches of Starbucks, modern architecture as original as James Bay and his stupid little hat) Liverpool remains a glorious exception to the rule.

As for all the city's modern museums and sleek art galleries (it's got more than any other UK city outside London), it's a place where the past its almost impossible to escape, evident with every grand facade and of course those famous docks.

For proof of that, check out these interactive images that provide a startling look at its most famous landmarks from bygone eras to today.
