Smell-a-shop

Whenever we speak to a vegetarian (a rare occasion), they'll often complain that the hardest aspect of avoiding meat is the smell of bacon.

An intimidatingly powerful odour, it can turn a strong-willed man into a weak, dribbling wreck within seconds. Finally harnessing the smell for use as a weapon, a Brooklyn supermarket have started to pump it into stores to ensure their customers remain spellbound.

NetCost market have installed machines that pipe in a variety of food smells, which also includes 'rosemary focaccia', 'strawberry and pink grapefruit' and 'Lindt chocolate', in deviously relevant aisles.

The scheme started in May and their profits haven't seen a major upturn yet but they're hoping it's a slow-burner. It's probably saying something that we're heading out to get a bacon sandwich right now.
