Is there an actor in all of cinema quite as watchable as Jeff Bridges? It’s a struggle to think of anyone as consistent. Whatever he’s in, you know you’re going to get a performance to remember from the Oscar-winning actor. Bridges gets one of his best roles in years in Hell Or High Water, the new thriller from David McKenzie, director of the critically-adored Starred Up.
In a film that has already taken the Cannes Film Festival by storm, Bridges plays Marcus, a Texas Ranger on the brink of retirement and on the trail of one last case. He’s looking to apprehend two bank robbers, Toby and Tanner, played by Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Ben Foster (Warcraft). These two brothers are hoping to amass enough money to save their family farm, which is under threat of foreclosure from the same bank they’re robbing.
With a script by Taylor Sheridan, who wrote the extraordinary 2015 Mexican drug cartel thriller Sicario, Hell Or High Water is a riveting crime drama in which every character is so well crafted that you’ll keep questioning just whose side you’re on.
You can see Hell Or High Water for free before it’s UK release in one of the following Vue cinemas on Thursday 1 September: Birmingham, Cheshire Oaks, Edinburgh Omni, Gateshead, London Islington, Leeds Light, Manchester Lowry and London Piccadilly Circus.
