Say what you like about Russia, but they know what to do with 1.4 trillion pounds. Far be it from them to spend the dosh on trivial things like healthcare and infrastructure, our fur-capped comrades are investing in a research program that aims to develop teleportation by 2035.
The Kremlin-backed initiative is taking inspiration from Captain Kirk's transporter, with Alexander Galitsky, a prominent investor in Russia's technology sector, arguing: "Much of the tech we have today was drawn from science fiction films 20 years ago."
Amazingly, it's not as far-fetched as it might seem, as scientists at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands managed to teleport sub-atomic particles three metres in 2014. Dunno about you guys, but we think its high time for another - literal - space race.
