Running gear for dark nights: new winter kit to keep you warm and visible
Summer is fading and morning runs now take place in the dark. And let’s not forget: cold rain.
Nike’s new Shield range includes the Flash running jacket (£240; store.nike.com) with integrated hand warmers and shoes such as the Free 5.0 and Air Pegasus+ 30 (£90 each; store.nike.com, Pegasus pictured), and adds a three-layer mesh to keep feet dry, plus bold patterns only visible in the darkness.
Meanwhile, Puma’s limited edition Glow Mobium shoe (£85; prodirectrunning.com) features reflective materials and photoluminescence injected into the heel. The matching Nightcat jacket (£60; prodirectrunning.com, pictured) features 3M reflective yarns and glow-in-the-dark features to ensure you are clearly visible.
And yes, all of this highly specialised kit will also be equally effective for use bracing soggy winter commutes and hurried walks to the pub for lunch.
