Gritty. Absorbing. No-nonsense. Soon to be the best thing on TV this year.
But enough about Colin Farrell’s moustache, we’ve more than that to rave about in the first teaser trailer for season two of True Detective, which promises to be harder-hitting than its award-winning predecessor.
Following on from the sprawling case which saw Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s grizzled Louisiana lawmen chasing a serial killer over the course of seventeen years, this, an entirely separate storyline, shifts proceedings to California, deep down in the smog-layered city of Vinci where Farrell’s corrupt cop Ray Velcoro walks the streets.
He’s joined by Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn), a career criminal on the brink of losing it all and seemingly a big fan of staring soullessly into the distance, Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams), a goodhearted County Sherriff, and Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch), a war veteran turned motorcycle cop with the highway patrol.
Once again written by series creator Nic Pizzolatto, we know the plot involves Woodrugh happening upon a crime scene and inadvertently drawing three different law enforcement agencies together. That’d be Farrell, McAdams and Kitsch, and we have a feeling they might not all get along.
Call it a hunch.
