The latest Stephen King adaptation is here and it's scary as hell
29 September 2017

It’s been a big year for Stephen King fans. Both cinema and TV have seen numerous adaptations of the horror-maestro’s extensive back catalogue - some more well-received than others. Whilst the Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey-starring Dark Tower series was written off as a flop, terrifying clown-thriller It is set to become the biggest horror film of all time.

And if you enjoyed that? Psychological thriller Gerald’s Game is the latest to get the screen treatment, with the Mike Flanagan directed offering airing on Netflix across Europe and USA today.

The ‘single-location’ film follows a married couple: Gerald Burlingame (Bruce Greenwood) and his wife Jessie (Carla Gugino) as they attempt to spice up their marriage with a weekend away in a remote lake house. Things take a turn for the worse however when a sex game goes wrong, accidentally killing Gerald and leaving Jessie handcuffed to the bed with no means of escape.

As time passes and it becomes increasingly apparent that her only path to rescue is herself, Jessie must battle past trauma and the voices in her head that turn into terrifying visions. As with all the best horror, the lines between reality and imagination become increasingly blurred, pulling us into Jessie’s mental breakdown.

Friday night is sorted. Watch out for a particularly gruesome scene involving a stray dog.
