There's no flag waving in American Sniper's début trailer. No "Oorah"s or muscular posturing. Clint Eastwood hasn't taken to his director's chair to celebrate the most lethal sniper in American history - he's lying us down next to him and forcing us to soak up the tension.
Based on the autobiography of Chris Kyle - a Navy SEAL sniper with a record 160 confirmed kills out of 255 claimed - Bradley Cooper stars as the skilled sharp shooter on four tours of Iraq, tasked with protecting his brothers-in-arms.
Earning himself the name "Legend", Kyle struggles to balance his formidable reputation with the humble tasks of acting as a husband to his wife (played by Sienna Millar) and father to his son (Max Charles). With a cast including several ex-service men, this is set to be a tense ride.
American Sniper is set for a UK release on 16 January 2015
