

Hip hop stars are forever banging on about how they ‘came from the streets’, name-checking their formative stomping grounds in a bid to not come across as sell-outs or, worse, phonies.
It’s a rite of passage that shows no signs of letting up, and now some of the beginnings of those greatest rap artists have been plotted like never before. Having previously worked on a series of images which overlaid album cover photos onto Google Maps, artist Halley Docherty has given hip hop albums a similar treatment, giving us a new perspective on the early years of LL Cool J and NAS.
While unlikely to give you wanderlust, the pictures serve as an excellent use of Google’s mapping system. How Docherty found Warren G’s old address is particularly impressive.
