Brilliant video showcases the art of the cinematic car chase
Unlike real life, in cinema, car chases are a joy to behold.
Defying laws of physics as much as those enforced by hapless, donut-scoffing cops who inevitably end up crashing into something, not much stops our biggest heroes when the chase is on. Not glass, not concrete, and evidently not even neatly stacked cardboard boxes down narrow back alleys.
From Bourne to Bond to Bullitt, vehicular carnage is regularly seen on screen, and now thanks to this excellent video by Vimeo mastermind Film Noreden, we can see that the methods used to make these scenes aren't all that different…
Categorised by act (tyre screech, airtime, exploding into a fireball despite little contact) and injecting a turbo boost eighties track Pointer Sisters track (also featured in Beverly Hills Cop), The Art of the Car Chase compiles some of the most iconic chases in a way that will make you think that there is some sort of unspoken car chase blueprint in Hollywood.
Just don’t try any of it at home. Unless you happen to have a classic Mustang and an unquenchable thirst for justice, that is - in which case fill your boots.
