“It takes a village to make me look dope”, says Andy Samberg in the first trailer for the much awaited mockumentary movie from Lonely Island and producer Judd Apatow.
However, what his popstar alter ego (emphasis on ego) Conner4Real fails to realise is that every village also needs an idiot – and, make no mistake, he is it.
Chock-full of cameos from the likes of Simon Cowell, Usher and Adam Levine’s weird hologram, and sounding like a Justin Bieber concert, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping might just be the no-holds-barred satirical spoofing the upper echelons of the US pop industry deserves.
Joining the hijinx, Sarah Silverman plays his publicist, Bill Hader plays his roadie who loves nothing more than getting off on defibrillators, Will Forte his personal bagpiper, Imogen Poots his girlfriend, Will Arnett his paparazzo, Seal his wolf trainer (naturally) and Martin Sheen his mortal nemesis, seen landing one on his chin in the brilliant first trailer, below.
Knockout stuff.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is in cinemas from 26 August

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
