We’re not ones to dole out accolades lightly, so when we say that Bill Amberg is one of our favourite designers of leather goods, rest assured that we haven’t just met with a shadowy figure down a back alley and took receipt of a brown paper bag stuffed full of used £20 notes in order to write such a sentence. Put simply, he is something of a God.
That’s why we’re thrilled about his latest project – an exclusive and strictly limited edition run of leather back plates and matching cases for the new BlackBerry Bold 9780 smart phone.
Amberg has come up with six designs (yellow on black, orange on black, red on black, pink on white, blue on white and green on white), and only ten numbered editions of each edition will be available, exclusively at London's flagship Selfridges, from December 1.
A renowned perfectionist, Amberg has ensured that these back plates and cases are designed to the highest specifications. They have been carefully tanned, coloured and polished to achieve the final lacquered finish. In addition, each case has also undergone an intricate moulding process to achieve the unique curved shape.
Of course, such quality – and scarcity – doesn’t come cheap. The phones, with Amberg’s alluring accessories, come in at £1,000. But it will be the most desirable phone in London.
