Hollywood execs are often typified as soulless, money-grabbing demons with a sole interest in draining our pockets and laughing directly at us while doing it. While we're sure that this isn't the case we're certainly not doing to be disproving that with this list.
Aside from all of the sequels you do know about but wish you didn't (Phantom Menace for one), there are another 30 that didn't even make it to your 5th choice at Blockbuster.
We're here to dig them up and hopefully embarrass a few of the people involved on the way.
The Rage: Carrie 2
Did You Know? Original lead Sissy Spacek was offered a cameo, despite her character DYING in the first film, yet she wisely turned it down.
Lost Boys: The Tribe
Follows:The Lost Boys
Did You Know? As well as Corey Feldman reprising his role, after the credits you can also see a very brief cameo appearance from Corey Haim. The eager-for-work Feldman also appears in the next film, Lost Boys: The Thirst.
A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia
Follows:Lawrence Of Arabia
Did You Know? This was an 'unofficial' sequel that was made for TV a year after the original was re-released in cinemas. It stars Ralph Fiennes, who can file this away in his cupboard of films he must have done while drugged, alongside The Avengers, Maid In Manhattan and Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang.
Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision
Did You Know? Decides to worryingly tackle the topic of Nazism as a character travels back to try and kill Hitler. Unsurprisingly this didn't pose any threat to Schindler's List in the holocaust movie stakes.
The Birds II: Land's End
Did You Know? The director hated the result so much that he chose to have his name removed from the credits. Also, confusingly, original star Tippi Hedren returned for the sequel yet played a different character. Point, anyone?
Carlito's Way: Rise To Power
Did You Know? This was a prequel directed by the son of the original film's producer. He challenged the original's casting of Al Pacino and Sean Penn by enlisting, ermmm, P Diddy.
Did You Know? Todd Waring replaced Tom Hanks who decided not to return for the straight-to-TV sequel. Sadly it was the second time this had happened as he also replaced Hanks when he refused to come back for the TV spin-off of his movie Nothing In Common. Rumour is, when Hanks needs to go to the dentist, he forces Waring to go along instead.
Another Midnight Run
Did You Know? Universal resurrected Robert De Niro's character for a series of sequels. After this one there was Midnight Runaround (get it?) and Midnight Run For Your Life (get it?!). Recently it was announced that the real De Niro would be back for a legitimate sequel with an actual budget.
I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
Follows:I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Did You Know? Helped no doubt by the ridiculously nonsensical title, the film boasts a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was rumoured to feature a cameo from Jennifer Love Hewitt but even she passed. That's when you know you're in trouble.
Beyond The Poseidon Adventure
Follows:The Poseidon Adventure
Did You Know? Starring Michael Caine and Sally Field, this failed attempt to recreate the original's success was set to follow the survivors as they found themselves trapped in a tunnel while on their way to testify in Vienna. That premise was used years later for the Stallone flick Daylight instead.
Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
Follows:The Blair Witch Project
Did You Know? Made on the quick to cash in on the success of the first film, this sequel managed to rack up five Razzie nominations and one win for worst sequel or remake. The DVD and VHS releases were littered with subliminal messages which read out a message to viewers. Probably something like "You're an unparalleled idiot for renting this."
Did You Know? Robert Downey Jr hated the film so much that he termed it "the worst action movie of all time" and said "I'd rather wake up in jail for a TB test than have to wake up another morning knowing I'm going to the set of U.S. Marshals."
American Psycho 2
Did You Know? The film stars Mila Kunis as a student who is driven to murder after she kills Patrick Bateman. It also features William Shatner as a college professor and FBI agent. Neither of which are believable jobs for him.
Follows:The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Did You Know? Although it was just released as a midnight movie on Halloween, the film was an even bigger flop than the original. Susan Sarandon was set to reprise her role but dropped out after a salary dispute. The dispute was probably that she wanted to get paid and they couldn't afford to pay her.
Dumb And Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
Follows:Dumb and Dumber
Did You Know? This prequel was originally set to be written by the creators of South Park but they changed their mind and returned the $1.5million they were paid. In one scene, the pair were standing at the corner of Stan St. and Oliver Ave, a reference to Laurel & Hardy. A cruel reminder of a much superior comedy duo.
Son Of The Mask
Did You Know? After the original, Nintendo Power magazine launched a competition to win a walk-on part in the proposed sequel yet this project was canned and the prize was redundant. Years later, this follow-up remains one of the worst reviewed films ever on IMDb.
Green Street 2: Stand Your Ground
Did You Know? The writer of the original panned this sequel as the worst representation of hooliganism and an English prison ever. Written by an American, the inmates wore orange jumpsuits and had their legs chained, both characteristics of a US prison.
Home Alone 4: Taking Back The House
Follows:Home Alone 3
Did You Know? Despite taking place 12 years after the original, the character of Kevin is clearly stuck in a Simpsons-style time trap as he has only aged 1 year. Thankfully he isn't played by a clearly adult Macaulay Culkin.
2010: The Year We Make Contact
Follows: 2001: A Space Odyssey
Did You Know? Director Peter Hyams said that he wouldn't direct the sequel without Stanley Kubrick's blessing who "more or less said 'Sure. Go do it. I don't care.'" Not exactly enthusiastic....
Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective
Follows:Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
Did You Know? Both Jim Carrey and Courtney Cox decided not to come back (surprisingly) and Cox was replaced with Ann Cusack, John and Joan's depressingly less fortunate sister.
Look What Happened To Rosemary's Baby
Did You Know? The plot follows Rosemary's son Adrian after he is adopted by the madam of a brothel and worries about not living up to Satan's expectations. Depressingly, it stars Ruth Gordon who gave an Oscar-winning performance in the original.
Return To Oz
Follows:The Wizard Of Oz
Did You Know? Holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the sequel made the longest time after the original, a massive 46 years. Turns out good things don't come to those who wait...
Did You Know? Richard Kelly, who directed the original, stated that he had nothing to do with this follow-up. The film follows Donnie's younger sister, played by the same actress in both films.
The Sting II
Did You Know? The film follows the two characters from the first films yet changes their names slightly and some might argue pointlessly. While the first film garnered 7 Oscars, this sequel won nought.
Follows:The Talented Mr. Ripley
Did You Know? Matt Damon was replaced by John Malkovich in this sequel which actually gained stronger reviews than the first. Ironically, Malkovich was originally going to direct the first film.
Wild Things 2
Follows: Wild Things
Did You Know? Was followed by two more sequels, the most recent was imaginatively titled Wild Things: Foursome. This chapter came from the director of Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus and a film actually called Some Guy Who Kills People. Wonder what it's about...
Single White Female 2: The Psycho
Follows:Single White Female
Did You Know? This follow-up regurgitates the EXACT SAME storyline but with no reference to the first. It also conveniently adds the subtitle "The Psycho", in case the subtle bloody knife on the poster leaves us in any doubt as to the film's content.
The Great Escape II: The Untold Story
Follows:The Great Escape
Did You Know? Unlike the original, this TV movie was a work of complete fiction, which makes the title rather nonsensical. It's untold because there was no one to tell it...
Addams Family Reunion
Follows:Addams Family Values
Did You Know? The perfectly cast Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston were replaced with the, ermmm, cheaper alternatives Tim Curry and Daryl Hannah. Thankfully though, the actor who played Lurch returned.
Roadhouse 2: Last Call
Did You Know? Patrick Swayze was set to reprise his role in the sequel to Roadhouse but dropped out due to creative differences so his character's son takes the lead. Hmmm, it feels wrong putting the word 'creative' so close to 'sequel to Roadhouse'.
