Burger King ask McDonald's to bury the hatchet and create 'The McWhopper'
27 August 2015

It’s National Burger Day! Hurrah!

In case you’d forgotten, this is the day Mr Hyde assembles the savviest street food vendors, brioche buns and first-class patties for one huge party in London, while major burger joints nationwide drop their prices by a drool-worthy 20 per cent.

And if that’s not enough exciting burger news for you, it appears that Burger King has asked arch rivals McDonald’s for a ceasefire, during which time they can get together and work on the ultimate high-street burger...

That's right, this video below is titled the McWhopper Sandwich Proposal, aiming to combine those two famous high street staples, the Big Mac and the Whopper, in a show of unity for World Peace Day on 21 September. Though to sample it you'll need to go over to a special pop-up store in Atlanta, which will be the only location to sell the limited-edition burger.

Much like Pepsi and Coke, or Nike and Adidas, these two titans of fast food have been defined as much as each other than the products they flog, making for one of the most fractious battles of consumerism known to the western world.

And let’s face it, despite the lack of gastro grace, given we’ve all wolfed down their famous burgers at one stage or another, we’d be fooled to claim we don’t want to try it. As the video says, “Let’s end the beef, with beef”.

Failing that, a clown and a bearded monarch hitting each other in the face could always be fun.
