This is who Pierce Brosnan thinks should be the next James Bond

With Daniel Craig’s retirement on the horizon, Pierce Brosnan has cast his vote for the next James Bond

Everyone’s got their favourite Bond. And with four solid films under his belt, Pierce Brosnan’s got a pretty strong claim to being one of the greatest Bonds of all time.

Brosnan’s Bond – in GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002) – was praised by legendary film critic Roger Ebert as “somehow more sensitive, more vulnerable, more psychologically complete” than the previous secret agents.

And with Daniel Craig’s retirement on the horizon, everyone’s wondering who’ll be the next 007.

There’s been a fair bit of chat about having a female Bond – and the odds have been slashed on Sicario and A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt.

Other favourites include McMafia’s James Norton along with Cillian Murphy, Daniel Kaluuya and Michael Fassbender.

But Brosnan’s money is on another British actor: Tom Hardy.

Could Tom Hardy take up the iconic role?

Brosnan, 65, told The Mail On Sunday’s Event magazine:

Bond is Bond and you can’t change that. I think a woman could play Bond but it wouldn’t be James Bond. Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond. He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man. He’s complained about doing the part because he’s put himself through a lot physically, but he will do the next movie, and then I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it – that’s what makes Bond.

With memorable roles in Cold War spy film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), Oscar-nominated thriller The Revenant (2015) and the post-apocalyptic Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Hardy is certainly a strong contender.

The next Bond film, likely Craig’s final turn in the role, will be directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle. Its release date in the US will be 8 November 2019, while it will be screened in the UK before this.
