Wu-Tang Clan sell album in speaker

Vinyl? Forget it. CDs aren't any better. If your album is going to make headlines, you need to do something bold. Like give it away with a phone operating system. Or lock the only existing copy in an engraved box. Or even a speaker.

Having raised the collective brows of music fans earlier this year by releasing just one copy of the album The Wu - Once Upon A Time In The Shaolin in an engraved box worth several million dollars, Wu-Tang Clan's latest release is set to take a similarly unconventional route.

Months before A Better Tomorrow hits stores and the wider web, the album will be available embedded in a portable speaker. All eight tracks of the album will feature on a Boombotix Bluetooth speaker, along with the exclusive bonus track Big Horn B. And if that weren't niche enough, only 3,000 set to be made.

"There's something transcendent about being able to physically hold music," said Wu-Tang's RZA. "Back in the day, holding a vinyl helped you appreciate just how much time and sweat goes into creating a single track, let alone an entire album. Over the last decade, we've lost that sensation. With this project, we hope to strengthen the bond between fan and artist."

Boombotix will be selling 1,000 of the Boombot Rex 20th Anniversary Wu-Tang edition speakers for around £50 from 14 November, with a further 2,000 available from Zumiez.
