The ShortListen: Zack Lopez (no. 220)

Who? Zack Lopez

What’s the story? Anyone who's sick of listening to saccharine Christmas songs proclaiming that everything is lovely and fluffy, step this way: we have an antidote for you. Zack Lopez is/was the frontman of Sacramento rockers Middle Class Rut, who released two fantastic albums and toured solidly for the last six years before going on an indefinite hiatus. Clearly the new-found freedom has released some sort of energy in Lopez, as he's announced a fan subscription service via Pledgemusic which will see a new song, with every instrument played by himself, released every other week for an entire year - you can sign up for just $10. On the evidence of this track - a brilliant driving blast of QOTSA-fronted-by-Perry Farrell rock excellence - that will be an absolute steal.

For fans of: Queens of the Stone Age, Jane's Addiction

In three words: Move over Santa
