The ShortListen: Jones (no. 217)

Who? Jones

What’s the story? East Londoner Jones cautiously introduced herself to the world with the Solange-style soulful pop of Deep, which we featured on The ShortListen in September last year. After following it with the sumptuous Indulge, she now ups the ante with Hoops, which we can see getting some serious radio exposure. Cool and stripped-back, whilst still boasting a big chorus with Pharrell-style drums, once again there's plenty of space to appreciate her direct, soulful vocals. She could well be the one to emerge from the shadows of the 'Tipped for 2016' lists and go big next year.

For fans of: Honne, Solange

In three words: Cool dark soul
