The ShortListen: Brand New (no. 315)

Who? Brand New

What’s the story? We've been patiently waiting for a new album from Long Island quartet Brand New ever since 2009's Daisy, but it still hasn't arrived. In the seven years since that album, we've had just two singles - (Fork and Knife) and last year's Mene - and you can now add this new track, I am a Nightmare, to the list. It's a straightforward rocker, almost Biffy-esque in style, clocking in at a poptastic 3 minutes and 20 seconds. It's great, with a brilliant pop-punk chorus, but what we really want is another odyssey like 2006's landmark The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, yet there's still no word on a new album. Can they produce it? Do they even want to? We guess we'll just have to keep on waiting.

For fans of: Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters

In three words: Pop punk excellence
