For the true audiophile, the music video is an afterthought. An easily discarded cherry on the vinyl-shaped cake. While it might enhance the mood of the song, it's a meaningless montage with the underscoring. That is, unless it happens to be a hand-painted animation of over 3,000 oil paintings - in which case we'd still watch it on mute.
This literal work of art is the creation of Zachary Johnson - a New York-based artist who undertook the painstaking process of painting 3,454 separate oil on paper works to recreate a frame-by-frame video of a night time drive through his home city. The animation is a stunning backdrop to Waiting from the debut album Love We Are We Love by THE SEA THE SEA.
The results are a rain-soaked, atmospheric trip through darkened streets. If you don't like the sound of the single (though it's a beautiful song in itself), we recommend playing the following ambient noise in the background. Enjoy.
