Kapow. Boom. Zoink. Bam. As fond as we are of the phrases flashed during the classic ‘60s Batman TV show, we can’t say we’re expecting any of them to reappear when the next Gotham-based small screen show hits the air.
For Gotham, set in a world where Bruce Wayne has only just seen his parents slain, and where Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon, the lead, is still a junior detective, is dark, unbelievably dark if you counter in the lighting set-up.
And with Batman clearly still a long way from earning his wings, the Fox series looks set to focus on the back stories of the city’s most abhorrent and criminal masterminds, including Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) and mobster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), as highlighted by this bold new teaser.
We bet Adam West is quaking in his boots.
Gotham will be out this autumn
