It's not every day a new Bond song comes out.
Well today is one of those rare days, as joining a pantheon of greats in the Bond song canon (Bassey, McCartney, Cole, whatever Adele’s last name is), Sam Smith has just shared Writing’s on the Wall, his theme track for forthcoming film Spectre.
Writing on his Twitter account moments after Radio 1 gave it a first play, the British singer wrote, "I have been dreaming of this moment for a long long time."
Already hugely hyped after months of speculation which saw everyone from Ellie Goulding to Radiohead linked to it, the pressure was on. So what of the song?
Much like Adele’s Oscar-winning ballad for Skyfall, it’s very Bond-y, with crashing drums, searing violins and cryptic lyrics which could just as easily be about murdering henchmen as they could about making love to a beautiful woman, ensuring you'll be in no danger of forgetting what film franchise this one's for.
On another note, Smith appears to be a perfect fit, his heterogeneous vocal range impressively keeps up with those dramatic orchestral rise and falls.
So will it be a hit? Give it a spin on Spotify and let us what you think below.
