Watch The Oscar Nominations Live

The time is almost here. For those who don't dismiss awards season as a slightly corrupt industry-wide backslap, the Oscars are still the main event.

The nominations are finally unveiled today in two batches. First, at 1:30pm GMT, we'll get to see who's up for the more technical nods, from Film Editing to Visual Effects, and then at 1:38pm GMT, we'll get to the big ones, from Best Actor to Best Picture.

So what will get nominated? Well Boyhood is still a front-runner for scooping a few statuettes, including Best Picture, but given its small scale, it won't come away with the most nominations. That title will probably be down to either Birdman or The Grand Budapest Hotel. Expect Brits such as Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Felicity Jones to get leading actor nods while Meryl Streep is predicted to pick up her 19th nomination for Into the Woods.

What are the potential upsets? Acclaimed Martin Luther King drama Selma was initially seen as a contender but after losing steam in recent weeks, it could be shut out from some of the main awards, including Best Actor for Brit David Oyelowo and Best Director for Ava DuVernay, who would become the first African American woman to be nominated in the category. Elsewhere, Nightcrawler could end up doing well, with pushes for Jake Gyllenhaal and maybe even Rene Russo, Ralph Fiennes could sneak into the Best Actor race for Budapest while Guardians of the Galaxy could be a surprise Best Screenplay nominee.
