Have the marketing people behind Suicide Squad gone and shot themselves in the foot?
We’ve so far been largely left in the dark as to what to expect from the forthcoming DC movie and its gun-toting band of antiheroes, but if a new theory from Heroic Hollywood is to be believed, DC might have accidentally given one of the film’s biggest plot secrets away in the trailer.
If the rumblings are correct, Suicide Squad could be about to shake up superhero films for good…
In short, the website proposes that Cara Delevingne’s June Moone/Enchantress, is actually the main baddie, and that the plot heavily revolves around the titular crack team’s attempt from preventing her from resurrecting her brother and destroying the world – making her the first major female villain in a blockbuster superhero film.
“If you look again at the recent comic con trailer, the clues are pretty much there,” teases the post on Heroic Hollywood. “Whether or not The Enchantress is out to resurrect her brother remains to be seen, but the hero shots of Suicide Squad together as a team, she is mysteriously absent.”
And the fact she’s already a paid up member of Taylor Swift’s squad, surely a bigger reason than any not to join another squad...
First appearing in DC's flagship science fiction anthology Strange Adventures in 1966 as a character able to concoct magic spells, The Enchantress would go on to join the Suicide Squad on the agreement that she would curb her evil streak. She later disappeared for unknown reason and wasn't seen for years.
As for the film, no word on how Jared Leto’s Joker fits into this theory, though it would set the proverbial cat among the pigeons if his emerald-haired maniac was to fight alongside Cara’s character in taking on the Suicide Squad. We'd applaud DC for that one.
