Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Or is it a craft which proves the US government is experimenting with alien technology?

That’s the question at the heart of this video, appearing to show what an alien craft hovering above a US airbase in Dayton, Ohio.

Recorded by a husband and wife on the fringes of the Wright-Patterson airbase, it begins with the woman asking, “What the fuck is that?” as a sharply edged blue object moves between the clouds, remaining oddly static as the pair continue to get noticeably agitated.

Before they know it the UFO has disappeared, but not before they managed to get a good minute of it on camera, further fuelling rumours that Uncle Sam has been secretly toying with extra-terrestrial technology for all these years. Opting to remain anonymous, the couple sent the footage onto UFO hunters Secure Team 10, which was only too keen to share the odd video.

Unless it’s a subversive marketing campaign for Independence Day: Resurgence, it’s pretty chilling whatever it is - and with Barack Obama so keen to reveal something huge before he leaves office, it couldn't be better timed.

In the eternal words of Cerys Matthews, it really could be a case for Mulder and Scully.
