Jubilee Martini?

We've had a barrage of press releases jumping squarely on the jubilee bandwagon. Some have worked (once again, Marmite, well played) but most have found their way to the trash can quicker than Gus The Fox on a hangover.

This one though, a recipe for a jubilee cocktail, survived and made it on to the site. Why? The inventor.

Salvatore Calabrese, known as 'the world's leading cocktail expert', first met The Queen in 1987 when he worked at Dukes Hotel and was asked to host a private party for Her Maj and her guests.

He served The Queen this Gin Martini – and she asked for it with a twist. The seal of royal approval was given to Salvatore when she completely finished her drink, hopefully before roaring 'WALLOP!" across the bar and daring Calabrese to "fill that badboy up again".

Anyway, here's how it was made:

Ingredients: Good quality gin, 2-3 dashes of Martini Extra Dry Vermouth, Twist of lemon and an olive

Method:

• Place gin in the freezer.

• Coat inside of a cocktail glass with still water, discharge the excess and place in the freezer for 24 hours. Remove.

• Pour the gin directly into the glass. This will give the drink dilution.

• Lay 2-3 dashes of Martini Extra Dry Vermouth on top for aroma and taste, this ensures the martini is super cold and super dry.

• Add a twist of lemon on top (make sure that there is no pulp), extracting the oil straight from the lemon.

• Coat lemon twist around the edge of the glass, and then place into glass for garnish, or an olive if preferred.
