The Simpsons is launching a real Duff Beer

duff.jpg

In the words of everyone's actual favourite superhero, "Are you ready to get DUFFED?"

After years of having to deal with fake, knock-off and plagiarised versions of Duff Beer from Australia to Chile, 21st Century Fox is set to release its own "official" Duff.

Set to follow a brewing recipe devised for Fox by British brewmaster Paul Farnsworth, the premium larger has been described by the president of the company's consumer product division as having "a very good balance of flavour and refreshment to it. It’s fairly deep golden in color. It’s got a hint of fruit to it. It’s got a caramel aromatic to it."

The Duff beer is set to be launched in Chile later this year - a nation in which Fox has long combated the production of an unauthorised version of Duff. By taking advantage of the "illegal" versions of Duff, the official brew will be rolled out across South America and Mexico, before arriving in Europe later next year.

Part of the reason behind the move into beer manufacturing is to allow Fox to gain a better grasp on copyright cases, as intellectual property laws haven't always helped them to combat the sale of unauthorised Duff since it's a fictional product. By making it "real", Fox will be able to prevent sales of copies in international markets.

The move also comes against a history of opposition from within Fox against selling a beer associated with what is primarily a children's TV show; show creator Matt Groening has previously stated that he would never support the sale of Duff - both on ethical grounds, and due to the fact that the parody brew is supposed to taste awful.

We'll have to wait until 2016 to see if Duff tastes like its fictional version, or is worthy of a spot in your fridge.
