Drake is going to star in season three of 'Top Boy'

Hopefully without a London accent

Drake is going to star in season three of 'Top Boy'
03 April 2017

Drake, who we all know likes to indulge in a bit of “getting waved with the mandem”, has long proclaimed his love for all things London, and in particular, all things grime. He’s been instrumental in helping the genre break the US, and is bessie mates with Skepta, Giggs et al – he’s even got himself a BBK tattoo, to show he means it.

One other thing he’s been quite vocal about in the past, is his fondness for the Channel 4 TV show Top Boy, starring Ashley Walters (Asher D) and Kano, that originally aired in 2011, followed by a second season in 2013. He let the world know about it a coupla years ago through the mysterious medium of Instagram:

And he hasn’t looked back since. Exhibit 2:

But it's that second Insta post that is of most interest, because it cryptically signposted the news that Drake had bought the rights to series three, after Channel 4 pulled the plug. Drake saved Top Boy, basically – thanks Drake, you absolute bod man.

And there’s more! Ashley Walters had a chin wag with The Mirror this week and revealed that Drake has been in talks with the show’s creators as recently as last week. He said:

“We met up to start talking about the show and we are working out a role for him. He loves acting, of course he wanted a part. He’s going to be really hands on and is getting stuck into it.”

Thankfully, Drizzy has ample acting experience, too, having starred in Degrassi: The Next Generation for a good six years, so it’s not like we’re gonna get a Vanilla Ice-in-Cool-As-Ice-type situation here, thank god.

Really though, Drake, I love your fondness for UK culture and slang, but please, please don’t attempt a London accent. Play a Canadian or an American – we can’t have you swaggering around sounding off in a mock-roadman accent, it would genuinely ruin the entire show. Case in point:

Apart from that, sweet, looking forward to it.
