Matt LeBlanc channeled his famous Friends character's trademark sleaziness at the Emmys last night in a seriously awkward comment about Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke.
After the two swapped comments over who was the biggest fan of who (Emilia ultimately decided that she was the bigger fan), LeBlanc went on to admit that he had only ever watched the first series of Game Of Thrones, before leaving everyone watching severely creeped out - “Yeah, I saw the first season, and I kind of fell out of touch with it,” LeBlanc said. “I guess that’s when she started getting naked, so I need to catch up.”
Yeah, you read that right.
Although LeBlanc's comment was no doubt intended as a joke - albeit a poorly judged and not very good one - it definitely came off more 'lecherous builder' than 'red carpet celebrity'. Yep, pretty uncomfortable stuff there from the Top Gear presenter. Clarke's reaction wasn't shown on TV but the people of Twitter were keen to voice their opinions.
Matt LeBlanc said he needs to catch up on Game of Thrones cause that's where Emilia Clarke gets naked... someone punch him in the throat plsMatt LeBlanc said he needs to catch up on Game of Thrones cause that's where Emilia Clarke gets naked... someone punch him in the throat pls— Seanny (@ohseann_) September 19, 2016September 19, 2016
The pair previously met on The Graham Norton Show where Emilia had admitted to having a bit of a crush on the 49 year old Friends star - a revelation which lead to a pretty uncomfortable-looking Matt LeBlanc being requested to ask her "how you doin'?"
It's open to debate whether or not this background adds any context to the situation, but what is not up for debate is that it definitely wasn't the best choice of words from LeBlanc and perhaps at future red carpet appearances he might do well to keep his fantasies to himself whilst being interviewed on live television.
